Planning the perfect Gatsby night out

Posted on 24th Apr, 2015 by Jackie Jolliffe

Since 2013’s hit movie, The Great Gatsby, 1920’s style and glamour has made a real comeback.

The opulent and extravagant theme is one of the easiest and most enjoyable to adopt – making it a fantastic choice for your next night out. So dust off those suits and polish those brogues as we share our top tips for your next Gatbsy-inspired night.

The car

Like everything from this era, your transport will need to exude style and eccentricity – and we have a whole host of classic cars certain to meet your Gatbsy needs.

The blue or burgundy Beauford is a great choice for getting your party noticed. Great for summer, the convertible cars carry two to three passengers and come with newly upholstered cream leather.

For a larger wedding party, why not opt for our cream regal Landaulette, seating up to seven passengers.

If you’re looking to infuse a bit of modern glamour with Gatsby charm you could also choose one of our newer cars, such as our white Chrysler limo.

Also known as the Baby Bentley, this eight-seater is undeniably plush and stylish, making it an attractive option for your extra special night out.

The look

For the men there are a variety of wow-factor looks:

  • The super swanky dinner suit, complete with waistcoat and bow tie
  • The casual ivory linen suit, teamed with softer, brighter colours like blue and yellow
  • The prohibition power suit – think striking red accessories, boater hat and Jasper shades.

Fabulous options for the women include:

  • Short flapper dresses, think feather, fringing and beads
  • Long dresses with boyish charm – but don’t forget the sequins!
  • Art deco jewellery and plenty of pearls.
  • Hatpins, cloche hats and beaded headbands are also an integral part of creating the Great Gatsby look.

The night

Manchester features some of the most exciting and usual haunts making it the perfect place to celebrate your Gatsby-inspired occasion.

Dusk Til Pawn, a former fortune teller’s den, is a great cocktail bar to start in and has an incredibly cool backroom vibe. With its free-play jukebox and speakeasy vibe, you’ll be transported back to 1922 in no time!

For a real vintage affair, full of eccentricity and charm, try Manchester’s Elxir. Known for its inventive cocktails and cool style you’ll find yourselves lounging on the darling dated furniture and sipping on drinks prepared in vintage birdcages.

If you fancy getting your flap on, the Northern Quarter’s Matt & Phreds is the place to go. Only visible by the seductive neon sign that hands out front, the jazz-inspired bar has live music and cocktails all night, every night. How much more speakeasy can you get?
