prom style ideas - Vintage

Going to prom is one of the most exciting and memorable nights of your high school life and making sure you look the part has never been so important. So, over the next coming weeks, we’ll be looking at some of the top ways to theme your prom night, from the dress to the make-up and that all-important transport. Today it’s the turn of vintage!

We’ve started a cool Pinterest board here! Send us your pics to add to it! We’ll be adding more as we go.

Hot wheels

The night is about more than just your outfit. It’s about the whole show, which starts with your journey to prom. Arriving in a chic, vintage car to complement your vintage look will not only help to make you feel a million dollars, it’s also guaranteed to impress onlookers and your peers at the prom venue.

But which of our cars best suits your vintage vibe? Let’s find out…

The Blue Beauford convertible is a true classic and guarantees you’ll make a truly elegant arrival to your prom night. The light cream paintwork, navy blue roof and newly upholstered cream leather make it the perfect choice for prom, plus there’s just enough space for the two of you to cosy up in the back seat.

Another popular choice is the Regent convertible. With space for up to five, you can either travel to prom with four of your best girl friends or share the car with another couple – double date style. With features like traditional walk boards and a spare wheel on each side, it’s great for photographs too!

A great vintage choice for the girls is the pink regal Landaulette. It’s actually the first of its kind anywhere in the whole of the North West so you really will feel like a princess as you travel to prom. It also seats up to seven, making it the perfect car to share with friends and split costs on too. One of our favourite feature is the heart shaped back windows. Why not all take it in turns to have a special shot, shaped by the heart, as you look outside the back window?

The dress (and suit!)

Of course, the right outfit is incredibly important in creating the vintage look. Choose a classic 50’s style gown – short with a full skirt – or 20s Gatsby vintage – think slinky and chic. With both eras, men look great in a full tux. Playing with colour to match it to your gown works incredibly well – especially with the 50s look, while the dapper the better when it comes to 1920s Gatsby.

Accessories

Don’t forget the clutch and a pair of statement shoes whatever era you’ve decided to go for. Glitzy or gold shoes work best for the 1920s look, while peep toe brights look fantastic teamed with a 50s dress. If you’ve opted for a more glamorous era, like the 20s, don’t forget those eye-catching jewels. Drop earrings and a statement necklace are a must!

Hair and make-up

When it comes to your make-up there’s two staple items for vintage – red lipstick and black eyeliner. With these tools and the help of a YouTube video you’ll be able to create the look you’re after in no time!

Hair is best styled in waves and kept loose, or tied in a low side bun. For 1920s style don’t forget a beaded flapper headband to wear across your forehead!
