If you’re hoping for a fun-filled party atmosphere at prom, reminiscent of days gone by, you can’t go wrong with the Motown look. Sharp and polished, sleek and sophisticated… it’s just perfect for prom.

All you’ll need to add is your dancing shoes – because those Motown stars sure did know how to move!

We’ve started a Pinterest board for this look – View it here and please help us add to it!

Arriving at prom

With Motown influencing your look, your car choice will definitely be style led – with an air of celebrity and sophistication. So with this in mind, we have a few fabulous cars we’d recommend…

The Rolls Royce Phantom is a classic. Coming in a sleek white, polished to perfection for your day, the vehicle oozes style and quality as well as a bold look – favoured by Motown stars.

It will give you that boost of confidence as you make your way to prom and ensure that classy, unique entrance you deserve.

If you’re planning on travelling with a group of your best friends, why not opt for our 16-seater white Hummerzine? This eye-catching limo is sure to get you noticed and is perfect for the pre-prom Motown party.

The limo comes with lasers, stargazers, strobe lighting, a CD system and much more – meaning you can pop on your favourite tunes to get you in the mood for the fantastic night ahead.

The style

Once you’ve grasped the Motown look, it’s pretty easy to get right. Think style and sophistication with a touch of glitz and glamour.

The girls should dress in long, sleek and slinky dresses – a bit of sequin sparkle wouldn’t go amiss either!

Mermaid style dresses, or dresses with a side split were also common in this era, so don’t be afraid to pick a dress of this style either.

If long gowns aren’t your thing, you could opt for a later 60s look – think Twiggy – with a simple A-line shift dress and low heels.

The boys should also follow the Motown rules of sleek and sophisticated style too.

A polished look, with a slim-fitting tux or a suit with a single or double-breasted jacket embodies Motown style and can be finished off with gloss black shoes or loafers and a tie.

The finishing touches

While accessories don’t play a big role in the Motown look, the hair and make-up certainly does.

Girls should be inspired by beautifully coiffed up-dos and the voluminous look.

You’ll need lots of hairspray to create this look and don’t forget a headband either! It’s great for emphasising the volume and adding a fabulous final touch.

When it comes to make-up, it’s all about the eyes. Keep the lips fairly natural but go all out with eyeliner and a set of false lashes to really bring out your eyes.

Boys, on the other hand, should coif their hair with pomade or gel to keep it out of their face – remember, looking sharp is key!
